Since the game is in the closing process, applications are permanently CLOSED.
Reserves are currently CLOSED.

Please be sure to review our FAQ, rules, and taken page!

Player Cap: 38/60

Please note that reserves only hold the character for you to apply with. Should all player slots be filled before the end of the scheduled application round, applications will close at that time. Due to the limited number of player slots, revision requests will be given a 24 hour window for re-submission.

To submit your application during an open round, copy and paste it directly in a comment here. If your application exceeds the character length, please only use one top-level and reply to it with as many comments as needed.

Please title your comments in the following format:

CHARACTER NAME | CANON | RESERVED/NOT RESERVED

Player

Name:

Age:

Preferred Pronouns:

Other Characters: If this is your second character, please list your first here.

Character

Name: Please include any known aliases as well.

Age:

Memory Option: (1, 2, 3 -- see HERE for more information).

Established Status
: Y/N. If yes, please state for how long (up to five years, more information can be found here) and detail briefly what they've been doing since they've come to Overjoyed. Please note that no memory regains will be possible prior to game-start: this option is only available to allow you to better establish your character and their potential organizations/business/etc.

Canon:

Canon Point:

Citizenship: Please review the settings guide and job guide, as not all characters will have citizenship. This will be very important for plot events and will not be easily changed once accepted, so consider your options carefully.

Job: See our jobs, FAQ, and culture pages for more information. Who they work for--whether it's The Company, The RAC, or another option, will have a significant impact on their daily lives. The most important thing to bear in mind is that the job should make sense for the character--we probably wouldn't have Gundam Wing's Heero become a pastry chef (though that would be its own level of awesome), and likewise, Ash Ketchum probably isn't suited for biomedical engineering.

* Level: For characters who are applying as members of the RAC, please state the level you believe is the most logical starting point for them. Keep in mind that no one begins higher than a level 4.

Abilities: For an overview of how your character's canon powers can translate to Overjoyed, please review the FAQ, powers guide and/or hit up the brainstorming meme where a mod will be happy to work with you. In short, we will only be nerfing those abilities deemed game-breaking, but will require that magical abilities translate into more scifi iterations of themselves. Additionally, you will need to classify your abilities between minor and major and explain why you chose that classification. Minor abilities will be available from day one, but major abilities can only be regained through AC purchases.

This section should also include any standard physical or mental abilities that are noteworthy about your character.

Personality: We expect this section to be thorough and as comprehensive as possible. While we understand that the nature of an AU-bending game will skew a canon personality, we ask that you refrain from heavy use of headcanon and, in the instances where you do use it, provide your logic and reference canon to back it up. Things to consider in this section: How do they react to conflict? What are their strongest traits and their weakest points? In their worst moments, what are they like? How about when they're at their best? We want to see well-rounded characters--no one is perfect and no one is completely flawed.

CRAU: Yes or no. If yes, please provide a brief summary of the world setting they're coming from, the developments and/or formative experiences that occurred during the time they were there, and a link to the game's main navigation page.

AU History: This is the section where you will blend the world setting with your character's original history. Because we realize that this isn't the easiest task, we want to make it as painless--and as fun--as possible. If you're struggling for ideas, please don't hesitate to hit up the brainstorming meme. Your history does not need to mirror canon precisely--some things just won't translate well at all, but try to stay as true to the original path as you can. The people tasked with rewriting your character's memory would try to align it as closely to true experiences as they could.

Original History:
If canon: A wiki link is sufficient as long as it covers the pertinent details and pertains to the specific universe in which you're pulling your character from (anime, manga, game, etc).

If OC: Please provide a detailed account of their life and general world setting of their original universe. If possible, try to limit this section to no more than 1000 words, but know that this is more of a general guideline for your moderators' sanity than unbending rule (so if you feel that you need to write more to convey important details, we understand).

Inventory: Items that your character had on their person at the time of leaving their universe will be permitted, though some may change form when entering Overjoyed to suit the environment (i.e., if you had a magical pocketwatch, it would probably look slightly different now.) For application purposes, please list any items within their possession at the canon point you'll be taking them from, and describe any changes the items will undergo.

Samples: Please provide either (A) a sample written within the game verse or (B) two threads, only one of which may be network, wherein at least one is set within game verse (i.e., tdm).

Miscellaneous Notes: Is there anything you would like the mods to consider that didn't quite fit into the above sections? For original characters, please note your PB here. Otherwise, feel free to add anything pertinent that didn't quite fall into the above categories.

CRAU: None!

Original History: This game seemingly takes place during the Taisho Period of Japan. (Actually time shenanigans are involved but none of that is actually revealed in Itsuki's route, so it's all MEANINGLESS)

Itsuki Kagami was born in a red-light district in Japan along with his older twin sister Kazuha. He spent most of his formative years there, scorned for being a 'brothel brat' and getting by only with the use of Kazuha's dream powers. Kazuha was born with ESP, or the power to show illusions to people, and she sold pretty dreams to people in exchange for money. With that as their only source of income, Itsuki and Kazuha continue to live in this fashion. Then, at the age of fourteen, Kazuha contracted an illness and died, but not before passing her ESP powers onto Itsuki. Itsuki sold dreams and continued to live this way until the age of twenty-three, where he was told by a representative from The World to board a ship with other ESPers. The World is a central authority that reigns over all and operates with the single purpose of maintaining peace throughout the world. Disobeying The World is a thing that no one does, so Itsuki accepted the order and boarded the ship, called the Norn, which is actually a GIANT FLYING SPACE SHIP UFO THING and not at all like a boat????

There, he meets his fellow ESPers, and is eventually placed on a team with Mikoto Kuga and Sakuya Nijou. Being of the lazy and flirtatious sort, he constantly clashes with Mikoto and Sakuya -- the former because he flirts with her all the time much to her disgust and the latter because he's flirting with Mikoto, Sakuya's dearest childhood friend. (YOU CAN SEE THE DYNAMIC GOING ON THERE). He also befriends Nanami Shiranui and Heishi Otomaru and often competes in all-night card endurance games with them. While on the ship, he tends to his daily ship duties with his team and while he wonders from time to time about the ship's purpose, he never really thinks hard about it (apparently the ship itself has some kind of mental barrier that prevents its passengers from thinking about all the plot holes lmfao). During this time, the ship is attacked by Natsuhiko Azuma, a rebel who's trying to kill the ESPers and destroy The World (but not the actual world. just The World. IT'S CONFUSING, I KNOW). He is successfully driven away thanks to Mikoto's barrier powers, though he comes back from time to time to attack the ship.

During this time, though it's not stated outright when, Itsuki makes a deal with Ron Muroboshi, an assassin hired by Natsuhiko to sneak onto the ship and pretend to be an ESPer. In exchange for Ron not harming the girls on the ship (why didn't itsuki bargain for the lives of the dudes too), Itsuki would discover who the pyrokinetic ESPer is among the group and convey that information to Ron. With that goal in mind, Itsuki begins to peer into everyone's dreams, though he never once finds out the pyrokinetic's identity. It helps that the pyrokinetic is actually the last to join the ship, along with a boy named Sorata Suzuhara who claims to have come from the future.

After Natushiko attacks the ship for the third time (this time also with the help of Ron), Itsuki helps Mikoto come to a realization that there is a traitor on the ship aiding their enemy. This information is told to all the ESPers. In order to deal and figure out who the traitor is, Kakeru comes up with a plan to pair off into twos, with girls having the choice of their partners but unable to pair with each other. Mikoto chooses to pair with Itsuki, not because she suspects him of being a traitor (she literally think that he's too lazy to do anything that requires that much effort), but because she thinks this is a good opportunity to force Itsuki to do some real work aka hunt down the real traitor with her. Itsuki has no other choice but to agree. At first, their dynamic is much of the same, with Itsuki flirting with Mikoto and making her angry, but as he watches Mikoto constantly push herself with her barriers and with the search, Itsuki becomes both irritated and interested in her.

His interest is mostly cruel (i know.... otome games okay), in that he despises Mikoto for being from a noble family and from how she coldly rejects Sakuya's attempts to comfort and grow closer to her. He thinks of her as arrogant and condescending, and when Mikoto actually summons a barrier to physically repel him (and his flirtations) away, he loses his temper, accusing her of not wanting to be touched by 'brothel brat'. He then attempts to put her to sleep so he can see her dreams, asking her if she's ever once thought who she really was underneath all her stubbornness and arrogant airs. Mikoto manages to resist his power. Before the two can fight again, Itsuki saves her from a falling tree and then points out that the tree was purposely cut down by the traitor in order to kill her.

Hoping that would be enough to deter her quest to find the traitor, Itsuki is alarmed when Mikoto has no intentions of giving up. Instead, he starts faking injuries and sickness and makes up excuses as to why he can't help her daily FIND THE TRAITOR hunts, thereby redirecting her from FIND THE TRAITOR to FIND ITSUKI AND BEAT THAT LAZY INSUFFERABLE SOD UP SO HE CAN FINALLY DO SHIT. (He also invites Mikoto to one of his card games with Nanami and Heishi and is endeared by the fact that she a.) doesn't know how to play OLD MAID b.) doesn't know but is determined to beat everyone's asses anyway c.) and looks really cute when she wins. i know he's really easy).

Mikoto catches Itsuki sleeping after claiming that he's ill, and he tells her that she should really be more careful about trying to find the traitor. Mikoto realizes that his attempts to shirk his duty are his way of trying to look after her. In response, she says she couldn't possibly stop looking for the traitor, since she doesn't want everyone on the ship to get hurt, including Itsuki. (and he dokis). After telling her that he pities her for her rigid way of life (and her inability to rely on others), he then tells her that she's welcome to fall in love with and to rely on him instead. Mikoto runs off, rattled, and Sakuya asks Itsuki to stop saying things he doesn't mean. Itsuki doesn't argue back, merely deciding that he might as well make Mikoto and Sakuya get together (because he honestly believes that the two of them have feelings for each other and that they're just angstblocking each other. which they are in like other routes, so Itsuki's beliefs aren't far off).

After watching Mikoto rattle her way around the next day, Itsuki and her have a heart-to-heart where Itsuki says he's worried about her lack of interest (in sakuya) in love and eventually asks her if she has any person in the entire world whose advice she'd listen to or would get angry with her when she needed it. Then, he says that's exactly why she'll end up all alone in the world because she can't bring herself to rely on anyone enough to let them in. Mikoto runs off almost in tears and Itsuki wonders why he's a GIANT BLABBERMOUTH AND A MORON for always making her cry.

Itsuki then takes Mikoto (as well as Nanami and Koharu) into a dream where they have to play out specific fairy tales and find their most cherished person/confess their love to them. Mikoto refuses to play along and instead hunts Itsuki down. Itsuki tells her that she'd better go to the castle and find prince Sakuya whereupon Mikoto yells at him that she doesn't even like Sakuya so could he stop with his assumptions and weird dream shit!!! At this point, Itsuki realizes that Mikoto is ACTUALLY telling the truth and that she ACTUALLY kind of likes him instead which makes him happy enough to put them both in an imaginary dream hot springs (much to Mikoto's horror because IMPROPER!!) where he is then beat up by dream Sakuya for being a pervert.

Now enlightened by the realization that his unrequited love for Mikoto might not be unrequited after all, Itsuki becomes even MORE flirtatious than he ALREADY IS towards Mikoto, who is both confused and pleased by this turn of events. While writing letters to home, Mikoto asks Itsuki if he'd like to do so as well and then teaches him the proper way to write one. Itsuki writes one to her, then the both of them finally sort out their feelings long enough to be clear about them. Itsuki kisses Mikoto who runs out of the library in embarrassment, rescues her from the pond she throws herself into, and is overall quite happy with his life! Which just won't do, as Sakuya finally tells Itsuki the reason why he and Mikoto could never become more than childhood friends -- that the person Mikoto loves the most will ultimately die saving her own life. Sakuya states that he had always seen himself dying for Mikoto in the future (having the ESP power to see into the future), but now he sees that his vision's changed to Itsuki dying instead.

Shocked, Itsuki locks himself in his room in order to think about this new turn of events. He decides that no matter what, he wants Mikoto to live without experiencing the pain of the one she loves the most dying for her sake, so with that, and with the threat of Ron (who has been constantly hounding Itsuki for information this entire time) added to his burdens, Itsuki decides to take Mikoto's barrier powers and transfer them to Ron instead. (Because ESPers can apparently do this??) 1.) He believes that without the barriers, Mikoto would not force herself into dangerous situations in the first place in order to protect people and 2.) that the transfer of ESP powers to a non-ESPer will ultimately kill Ron, therefore getting rid of him. With this resolve in mind, he finally tells Mikoto that he has no intention of leaving her and that he loves her and with that, they give.... themselves to each other.... (AT LEAST IT'S LEGAL FOR THE BOTH OF THEM i don't even know).

He takes her powers away after which turns out to majorly suck since the ship is immediately attacked when Mikoto's barriers disappear and the ship crashes!! Everyone is injured, but Itsuki is close to death, having thrown himself over Mikoto in order to save her. While in a ~coma~, Itsuki uses his dream powers to pull Mikoto in a dream where she's normal and living with Itsuki happily. (Instead of like, owning up to his actual condition and telling her that he might die very soon. nICE)

AND THAT'S WHERE I'LL BE TAKING HIM, thank god this is over
